Indianapolis and surrounding suburbs are in for a treat on Saturday, September 4th when Roots Diner with Lisa Morrison launches as a weekly, hour-long program on Zionsville radio station WITT, FM 91.9. Morrison will produce and host the show airing on Saturdays @ 11am with repeat broadcasts on Sundays @ 10pm. Metro Indianapolis radio audiences will remember Morrison as the host of the popular Roots Diner that aired originally on Brownsburg station WKLU between 2001 & 2005. When the station was sold, independent radio programming was eliminated, and like many great shows, Roots Diner was put on the back burner until this summer when Morrison received an invitation from the Patron Saint of Radio, Jim Walsh, to join the WITT family. Lovers of authentic Americana and roots music won’t want to miss this revival.

Glass Halo’s Eric Arnett and Aaron Enneking sat down with Jim Walsh at WITT’s Wapahani Studio recently and shared their music and history with it’s listeners. Formed a few years ago by Eric, Glass Halo has gone through a few lineup changes with its members but has stayed consistant for awhile with Eric at vocals and Aaron on lead guitar, also in the band are bassist Dave Grodzki and Jake Then on the drums. With Arnett’s wide ranging vocals and Enneking’s intricate guitar picking they performed “You Can’t Save Me”, “Going Nowhere” and “Indiana”.
Coming off a huge win from Birdy’s battle of the bands competition, they are bringing their live show to such Indy hot spots as The Emerson Theater, the Volrath, Melody Inn, Locals Only and the before mentioned Birdy’s Bar and Grill. Currently, they have an EP out, “This Love I Can’t Carry” that is available on iTunes, Luna Music (Broadripple location) or at www.myspace.com/glasshalo. Also, they have an untitled, 12 track LP soon to be released in mid March. Their next show is at the Emerson Theater at 7pm Saturday, January 30. Check out this band and support Indy’s finest in the local indie music scene.

Some may say that culture is dead in Central Indiana, those particular naysayers are the people that do not listen to WITT. On January 30th, WITT founder Jim Walsh had the pleasure of sharing with his listeners an outstanding group of young musicians known as The Vicar’s Beard. A band featuring former Zionsville High School students, all in college now studying a variety of subjects as well as classical music, with a love for the songs of the Renaissance period.
As culturally invigorating as that may sound, might we mention they also love to tear down the barn playing Bluegrass under the name of Warm Sauce Boat. And that is just what Christopher Burris, Chase Johnson, Joseph Mynhier, Nicholas Burris (twin bro of Chris) and Matt Maher did at the Wapahani Studio. With a variety of traditional and a couple of obscure instruments, Warm Sauce Boat put a hoedown on Jim that nearly sent him doing a jig during the performance and interview. Easy there Jim, we need your golden tones on WITT’s airwaves not cutting a rug on the next edition of Dancing With the Stars.
Look for these guys at the next local Renaissance fair or Bluegrass festival in your area during the summertime, and of course, right here on your own community radio station, WITT, 91.9. Always the place to get WITT it!
